Mirror Mirror: The snow white legend comes alive movie review

Title : Mirror Mirror
Release Date : 29 March 2012
Genre : Fantasy, Comedy

PLAYER

Director : Tarsem Singh
Cast : Lily Collins, Julia Robers, Armie Hammer, Nathan Lane

SYNOPSIS

Starring Oscar®-winner Julia Roberts

and breakout star Lilly Collins
(“The Blind Side” &; “Priest”), and evil Queen (Roberts) steals control of a kingdom, and an exiled
princess (Collins) enlists the help of seven resourceful rebels to win back her birthright in a
spirited adventure comedy filled with jealousy, romance, and betrayal that will capture the
imagination of audiences the world over. The film also stars Armie Hammer (“The Social
Network”) as the object of their affection, Prince Andrew Alcott, and Nathan Lane (“The
Birdcage”) as the hapless and bungling servant to the Queen.

PERSONAL COMMENT

Julia Roberts doesn't look that evil after all, but she is definitely a good 'bitchy' queen I can say. Along with the evil queen is the good helper Nathan Lane,
he is an important supporting role in this movie. After he turn into a cockroach, I can't forget that he actually say, 'the grasshopper take advantage of me'. It's kinda 18SX if you understand the meaning.

The Prince, Armie Hammer
is able to handle 2 characters well, one as a prince who always come naked, in love with the princess and on the other hand the prince who fall for the love portion from the evil queen. The puppy character is like wow! How could you act like a puppy!

For Lilly Collins
She suits to be the princess, being quite innocent, intelligent and brave when fighting the evil queen. What I think really helps Collins in this movie would be the 7 dwarves! You won't forget them.

Having the dwarves constantly steal our attention makes the show very interesting. How one of them says, Its between US. Their expression impressed me.

Besides that, their costume is kinda colorful, nice and attractive. Even if the movie is not nice, maybe checking out the costumes is cool enough.
So overall, kinda funny, some laughter here and there, not really scarry unless the puppet part, and lastly I didn't really expect the ending, so I assume it's a good plot for me.
Make sure you watch till the end, now I understand why at the end Collins sing and dance like those Bollywood movie! The director is from India.  (Highlight the text if you want to check it out.)

Time: 9pm

Johnny English Reborn

PLAYER
Directed by: Oliver Parker
Written by: Rowan Atkinson, Hamish McColl
Starring: Rowan Atkinson, Gillian Anderson, Rosamund Pike, Dominic West, Daniel Kaluuya and Richard Schiff

PLOT (from wikipedia)
English attempts to stop a group of international assassins before they eliminate a world leader and cause global chaos. In the years since MI-7's top spy vanished off the grid, he has been honing his unique skills in a remote region of Asia. But when his agency superiors learn of an attempt against the Chinese premier's life, they must hunt down the highly unorthodox agent. Now that the world needs him once again, Johnny English is back in action. With one shot at redemption, he must employ the latest in hi-tech gadgets to unravel a web of conspiracy that runs throughout the KGB, CIA and even MI-7. With mere days until a heads of state conference, one man must use every trick in his playbook to protect the world.

PERSONAL COMMENT
Johnny English Reborn is the sequel to Johnny English (2003) starring Rowan Atkinson.
This film is actually parodying the James Bond secret agent genre.

I love how the Plot started, especially where English meditate himself at Tibet. He learned skills from his master like, Focus on what you want to do, and there is always solution to a problem.
All these he will be used at the climax.

It's really nice to see our favorite Rowan Atkinson is back in action, love to see how his acting make us laugh out loud.
As this is a comedy, of course some part of the scenes is not logical at all, but as long as it's funny I'm fine with it.
He uses lipsticks

Some parts..I just gave a stunned look.

For Johnny Girl, it's Rosamund Pike.
Rosamund Pike is hot and sexy and
she is also the former Bond girl at Die Another Day.

For effects, love how they modified the Rolls Royce, which is sound activated, the wheel chair that travel faster than the police car and the Missile launcher with the umbrella.

Overall, if you are a fan of comedy you will definitely enjoy the movie. Just don't think so much and enjoy the movie.

PERSONAL RATING
Plot: 5/10

Personal Comments (may contains spoiler, read at your own risk)
10 years had passed since Scream 3? I didn't know that until I goggle search about it.

Thumbs up for the Violence scene.
Stabbing with knife and blood splashing is what I really want. :)
Sometimes it creates a thrilling scene, whereby you tend to close your eyes, thinking that the murderer will appear.
Eg: A girl receiving a phone call and when the murderer ask her to open the closet, and she did but nothing appear.

It's often punctuated with funny or jokes scene. Especially this part.
Alison Brie received a call from the murderer
and she tends to run to her car. Guess what?
She still dare to walk out of her car and look under the car for the murderer.
*I laughed*
But if you are looking for serious bloody murderer film I don't think you can find it much in Scream 4.

I have been always guessing who is the murderer. You think of A and B might appear as one.
You might suspect everyone in the end.

Ending was the best part, and I think it's more logical compare to the other movie.
How a guy/girl wants to be a murderer, what's their motive? You will find it out in the end.

The Cast

Overall

The film also keeps up the suspense, the director did a great job of keeping you interested. But for me, some part is just too ridiculous, so I just tend to ignore it.
Be careful you might just get shocked by some of the scenes mainly due to sound system I guess.

HOP movie review

Time: 9pm
Venue: Cathay Cineleisure, e@Curve
HOP

PLAYERS

Director: Tim Hill
Writers: Cinco Paul (story and screenplay), Ken Daurio (story and screenplay), Bruan Lynch (screenplay)
Starring: James Marsden, Russell Brand, Kaley Cucuo, Hank Azaria, Gary Cole, Hugh Laurie, Elizabeth Perkins, David Hasslehoff
Original Music by: Christopher Lennertz
Cinematography by: Peter Lyons Collister

PLOT
The current Easter Bunny (Laurie) is set to retire, but his son E.B. (Brand) wants to be a drummer, so he runs away from home and into the arms of Fred O’Hare (Marsden), who’s a layabout who can’t hold down a job. The two become buddies, and eventually learn to work together, and both learn very important life lessons about responsibility.

Personal Comments (may contains spoiler, read at your own risk)
E.B. (Russell Brand) and Fred (James Marsden)
Both of them have a good bonding in this movie. James Marsden is consider entertaining in this movie, especially his dialogs with E.B.
Sometimes what really impress me is that, in reality he is acting without the existence of EB.

When Fred sends EB to sleep at the garage
Easter Bunny: What are the newspapers for?
Fred: You know you’re an animal, so..
Easter Bunny: Oh, I understand. I’ll just sleep down here, among my poo and pee, like a pig

Love this part
EB trying to seduce Sam (Fred's sister)
Sam: Look at this. Look how cute this stuffed bunny is. [Holding E.B.}
Fred: Oh.
Sam: [As E.B. touches her hair] Oh, he's so soft And cute. And cuddly, and And warm.

EB is a talking bunny, it would be weird if a bunny can talk with human so
Fred is afraid of letting others know EB can speak, but when people see EB talking, they didn't care so I think everyone assume EB is a built in talking toy.

But how could David Hasselhoff believe a talking Bunny exist?
Not logic at all.

Carlos (antagonist character)
pretty obvious he is the evil one, at least he is the important role during climax.
Do you think he will take over Easter?
Carlos: Can I at least touch it?
Little Bird: [Gets hit by the spoon] Ow!
Carlos: There. You touched it.
Little Bird: Thank you.

The Pink Berets
acting as the special agent/guard for Easter Bunny
They are quite cute, especially the one every time FAIL at doing mission.

Do you think this dancing chicky Phil
looks like me? I mean the hair!

OVERALL
The combination of CGI and Live action is pretty impressive. Actors is able to act naturally.
Although this movie doesn't really suits the adult, but it's quite entertaining for me! Get to laugh for some stupid scenes.
I would really wish a better one for Cars 2 and Rio

Somehow on the day itself, I saw 2 agents holding a folder with a kind of symbol and pass it to us.
I don't really understand what is it for. There is also a link attached to it.

So I just visit the site and found some weird photos
KLCC with the symbol?

I would really wanna know what symbol is that for!

Sucker Punch movie review

Date: 22 March 2011
Time: 9pm
Venue: GSC @ 1utama

SUCKER PUNCH

PLAYERS

Director: Zack Snyder
Screenwriter: Steve Shibuya, Zack Snyder
Starring: Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone, Carla Gugino, Jon Hamm, Oscar Isaac, Scott Glenn
Genre: Action, Fantasy

PLOT

Close your eyes. Open your mind. You will be unprepared. “Sucker Punch” is an epic action fantasy that takes us into the vivid imagination of a young girl whose dream world provides the ultimate escape from her darker reality. Unrestrained by the boundaries of time and place, she is free to go where her mind takes her, and her incredible adventures blur the lines between what’s real and what is imaginary.

She has been locked away against her will, but Babydoll (Emily Browning) has not lost her will to survive. Determined to fight for her freedom, she urges four other young girls—the outspoken Rocket (Jena Malone), the street-smart Blondie (Vanessa Hudgens), the fiercely loyal Amber (Jamie Chung) and the reluctant Sweet Pea (Abbie Cornish)—to band together and try to escape their terrible fate at the hands of their captors, Blue (Oscar Isaac), Madam Gorski (Carla Gugino) and the High Roller (Jon Hamm).

Led by Babydoll, the girls engage in fantastical warfare against everything from samurais to serpents, with a virtual arsenal at their disposal. Together, they must decide what they are willing to sacrifice in order to stay alive. But with the help of a Wise Man (Scott Glenn), their unbelievable journey—if they succeed—will set them free.

Personal Comments (may contains spoiler, read at your own risk)
Sucker Punch is an action-fantasy-science fiction movie.
Computer graphics is an important elements.
For me it's like video game I played- the Samurai Warriors.
(the first part Baby Doll fight)

So the computer graphic is good in this movie, doesn't look that bad and fake when Baby Doll and the gang fights around. You don't have to say whether it's realistic, cause for all the action part it's Baby Doll imagination.
Actions
(Human vs Robots?)
It seems like the girls really did a lot of hard work, like hard core training?
For me, their fighting looks quite real, maybe is it cause of the Computer Graphics?
But I did a search (Link here)
Vanessa Hudgens "I trained with Navy Seals for five months. It was the most intense thing that anyone could ever do. I was bawling my eyes out because they push you so hard. But it's amazing what you find from it. When you go so far you find a certain Zen within that and you know you can do anything. It's very empowering."
— Vanessa Hudgens trained with Navy Seals to prepare for her role in Sucker Punch / March 22, 2010

So they really went for a training for this movie shooting, now I know why their fighting looks real.

Love this cute bunny machine control by Amber!

Vanessa Hudgens as Blondie
(that's the girl I wanna watch, but too bad, not much scene focus on her)

Oscar Issac as Blue Jones (middle)
the antagonist character

Wise Man (Scott Glenn) who helps the girls.
He told them to find 5 items to set themselves free.
Some inspiring quotes, Wise Man: If you don't stand for something, you will fall for everything

Lastly you would have realised, is the scene took place Mental Hospital or Prostitute/Club place?
Watch it and you will know why I ask this question!

Plot: 6/10
Action: 8/10
Graphics: 8.5/10

Burlesque movie review

PLAYERS
Director: Steve Antin
Writers: Steve Antin
Actors: Christina Aguilera, Cher, Stanley Tucci, Kristen Bell
Original Music by: Christophe Beck
Cinematography by: Bojan Bazelli
Running time: 1 hour 56mins

PLOT
(Credits to Screen Gems)
Ali (Christina Aguilera) is a small-town girl with a big voice who escapes hardship and an uncertain future to follow her dreams to LA.  After stumbling upon The Burlesque Lounge, a majestic but ailing theater that is home to an inspired musical revue, Ali lands a job as a cocktail waitress from Tess (Cher), the club’s proprietor and headliner. Burlesque’s outrageous costumes and bold choreography enrapture the young ingenue, who vows to perform there one day.

Soon enough, Ali builds a friendship with a featured dancer (Julianne Hough), finds an enemy in a troubled, jealous performer (Kristen Bell), and garners the affection of Jack (Cam Gigandet), a bartender and fellow musician.  With the help of a sharp-witted stage manager (Stanley Tucci) and gender-bending host (Alan Cumming), Ali makes her way from the bar to the stage.  Her spectacular voice restores The Burlesque Lounge to its former glory, though not before a charismatic entrepreneur (Eric Dane) arrives with an enticing proposal…

Personal Comments (may contains spoiler, read at your own risk)
Obviously we will focus on Singing and Dancing for this movie.

Cher and Christina Aguilera
Christina Aguilera's voice is awesome! When she sings, my eyes just stared at the screen. She is good and really suits the character - Ali.

Cher didn't perform as much as Christina Aguilera, but her singing is awesome too.
Especially this song: You Haven't Seen The Last Of Me
(Youtube link Click Here)
Scene in the movie : when Tess was singing alone to this song
Dancing
Dance is well executed and performed, love how they coordinate each other.

Stanley Tucci
Now he is really good in acting a "sissy" guy in this movie. In fact I really love how he always tease Cher in this movie. Anyway, do you think he is Straight? :)

The guy with eye liner
Cam Gigandet
the guy who falls in love with Christina Aguilera. He is kinda seducing especially the 18SX part lol.

He woes our lead by taking off his shirt, when he is seducing Christina Aguilera.
This part really LMAO. ( Do you want some Famous Amos Cookie ? )

The jealous performer
Kristen Bell

Last huge performance
by  Christina Aguilera and the dancers
Video from Youtube (Click Here)

Overall, it is still a good movie if you really love musical. Plot is just moderately well written and the best part would be the dancing and singing.

and lastly the Quotes that I would like to share.
Sean: [from trailer] So, is Ali short for anything?
Ali Rose: Oh, yeah, it's short for Alice.
Sean: Alice, hm? Well, welcome to Wonderland.

Comedy: 6/10
Sing/Dance: 7/10

The Green Hornet movie review

 THE GREEN HORNET

PLAYERS
Directed by: Michel Gondry
Screenplay by: Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg
Produced by: Neal H. MoritzExecutive Producers: Michael Grillo ,Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Ori Marmur, George W. Trendle, Jr.
Cast: Seth Rogen, Jay Chou and Cameron Diaz

PLOT
The Green Hornet centers on a Britt Reid (Rogen), a party boy and heir to a publishing empire. After the sudden death of his father, he along with his new companion Kato bond over a desire to rebel and end up becoming vigilante heroes. With the help of the newspaper and Reid’s secretary Lenore (Diaz) they work their way up the crime ladder until they reach the top dog, Chudnofsky (Waltz).

Personal Comments (may contains spoiler, read at your own risk)
The Green Hornet is an action comedy film.
Personally for me, comedy is well matched with the action elements in this movie, since most of the scenes are about Britt Reid by Seth Rogen) and Kato by Jay Chou.

I am pretty sure that it takes quite some time for Britt Reid (Rogen) and Kato (Jay Chou) to really have the chemistry bonding with each other, it's good to  see that the interactions work in this movie, and as I said that's where the majority of the film spent.
Expected Up's and down's of the movie, whereby two of them quarrel when they are facing some problems.

ACTION

This action part is where another success of this film.
Kato acted by Bruce Lee in the TV show is superb especially when he is an expert in the martial arts, so Jay Chou is still passable in most of the scenes.
Some of the stunning action scenes would be car chases and fist fight.

[Something interesting is that, they are driving the front part of the Black Beauty towards the end of movie.]

COMEDY
Sometimes I just feel unnecessary comedy's dialogue appears in between the interesting action part, guess that's where the part we just focus on the action part.
But yeah! Most of the dialogues between Britt Reid (Rogen) and Kato (Jay Chou) is really useful to show the comedy part.

Some of the interesting dialogues would be:
[Thinking of a title suitable for the headline of newspaper]
Rogen: Let's name it the GREEN BEE
All the staffs in meeting room: *keeps quiet, giving him a (=.='') face*
Kato: the Green Hornet
Rogen: the Green Hornet?
Staffs: yeah, that would be much better

(The Green Bee? sounds not hero at all)

I came across my friends blog, Carmen and I found this dialogues too.

Reid : What time is it?
Jay : 2
Reid : That's not so bad
Jay : Its Thursday
Reid : WHAT?!!! ITS NOT MONDAY?
Jay : Check out the Black Beauties.
Reid : Beauties?
Jay : Its for back up..
Reid : OMG, HOW THE HELL DID YOU DO ALL THESE IN FOUR DAYS!!!
Jay : 11 days
Reid : WHATTTTTTTTTT??????

[Eventually he blanked out on monday. And he woke up on Thursday. But it was actually already the following week, I were like wtf.]

BAD
For me, it doesn't really show any bonds between Lenore Case( Cameron Diaz) with Britt and Kato. It's merely a love interest between 3 of them.
She is the only part to drive the complication between Britt Reid (Rogen) and Kato (Jay Chou) .

Further more, Christoph Waltz role can be improve, he should be a stone cold killer instead of soft spoken evil guy.

so OVERALL, it's still a visual interesting movie, and 2 hours didn't seems to be real draggy and boring. It's also an entertaining movie, I am pretty sure you will enjoy it, and guess what, Jay Chou performance really improved.

Personal Rating:
Plot: (Can't determine as it is based on TV series)
Effects: 7/10
Comedy: 7.5/10
Action: 7/10
Overall: 7.5/10
